Action for Development (ACFODE) Information

The Action for Development (ACFODE) is a national women's rights organization founded on November 19th, 1985, with the mission to advance gender equality and empowerment in Uganda. For the past four decades, ACFODE has built strong grassroots connections, forged strong relationships with leaders at all levels, and achieved real change in the lives of women and girls through policy advocacy, research, and rights-based programming. ACFODE envisions a Just Society where Gender Equality is a Reality; and her mission is to empower Women, Youth and Girls through social and policy change that fosters a culture where they are accorded equal opportunities. In order to effectively fulfil her vision, mission and strategic objectives, ACFODE is guided by the following core values; Integrity, Learning, Volunteerism, Respect, Teamwork, Equity and Fairness. ACFODE’s programs are centered around thematic areas of focus such as Women and Climate Justice and Energy, Women, Peace and Conflict, and Social Enterprise for Financial Sustainability. The organization has set strategic objectives to guide their efforts: 1) Enhance women's and girls' agency and voice, 2) Improve women’s, girls’, and youths’ economic security, 3) Advance gender equitable social norms, 4) Influence policies, systems, and practices that promote women's empowerment and gender equality, and 5) Strengthen ACFODE’s institutional stability to effectively, efficiently deliver this strategic plan and its mandate. ACFODE is celebrating 40 years of championing gender equality and implementing women empowerment programs.
