Action for Children in Conflict Information

Action for Children in Conflict is a registered NGO operating programmes aimed at preventing, supporting and rehabilitating street and vulnerable children and their families. Vision A world of equal and sustainable opportunities for every child Mission To build the communities capacity to protect the rights of children and youth through advancing appropriate interventions AfCiC Programmes • Working Children Center providing practical care, education and emotional support to children and youth who want to make a break from street life. • Residential Street Children’s Interim Care Centre for children who cannot immediately rejoin their families; carrying out intensive non formal education, rehabilitation and family reintegration work • Kenyan Children’s Legal Aid Work (KCLAW) providing free legal advice to children and guardians and advocating for children’s rights and fair treatment. • School Feeding programmes in St Patrick’s Primary School, Karibaribi and Garissa Road Primary School feeding 1,500 vulnerable children daily. There is a desperate need to feed more to keep those most impover ished in school but we do not have the resources. • Holiday Clubs at Heshima and Garissa Road Primary Schools in April, August and December and the clubs provide extra interest lessons, lunch and games/sports for approximately 800 children helping to keep them off the street and aware from abuse and exploitation. • Children Lead the Way Programme, empowering the young boys and girls to better their lives through access to education and decent work. 331(156girls and 215 boys) children supported to access education in the year 2013. • Economic Empowerment, engaging former street youths in skills training that is apprenticeship based to make them earn entry into decent employment. Areas in skills training include: mechanics, tailoring, welding, carpentry, dress making, hair dressing etc. Since 2008, 328 youths have benefited from the programme.
