AcoustoFab is building a contactless robotics and Physical AI platform for handling, moving and understanding materials. Using patented programmable acoustic holograms, we shape sound fields to hold and manipulate liquids, powders and solids without physical contact. This enables automation of materials that are too small, delicate or variable for conventional grippers and suction tools. Our platform brings together three capabilities: • Handle and manipulate: Hold, orient and combine materials without contact, reducing contamination risks and mechanical damage. • Move and position: Transport materials and present them precisely for inspection, processing or sorting. • Sense and infer: Develop acoustic sensing methods to understand material properties and use those insights to improve handling. Our technology supports applications across laboratory automation, life sciences, agriculture, food processing and advanced manufacturing. It can be integrated into robotic end-effectors, standalone instruments and automated workflows. Our Physical AI ambition connects action with understanding. By manipulating materials and measuring their responses, we can generate proprietary datasets linking sound fields, material behaviour and handling outcomes. We are developing systems that use this knowledge to adapt to unfamiliar samples, improve performance and automate increasingly complex tasks. Founded in 2023 as a University College London spin-out, AcoustoFab builds on more than 15 years of research in computational holography and acoustic levitation. We combine patented technology with commercial deployments and customer-led development to build reusable hardware, software, sensing and control capabilities. Our vision is a common, software-defined platform for contactless robotics: an ecosystem where customers, developers and integrators can build, share and deploy workflows across materials, industries and applications, from laboratory R&D through full-scale production.
