The Abyss Project is a marine education and conservation initiative focused on connecting people with the ocean through hands-on experiences, environmental learning, and real-world conservation action. Built on the belief that people protect what they understand, we create opportunities for students, divers, researchers, and ocean enthusiasts to engage directly with marine ecosystems while contributing to meaningful conservation outcomes. Working alongside the Abyss Vanuatu Ocean Institute (AVOI), Ocean Rangers programs, researchers, conservation partners, and local communities, The Abyss Project helps bridge the gap between education, marine science, and practical conservation. Our focus includes: • Marine education and ocean literacy • Citizen science and species monitoring • Reef health and ecosystem surveys • Marine biodiversity awareness • Scientific diving and field learning • Community engagement and environmental stewardship • Research support and conservation initiatives Through programs across Australia and the South Pacific, we aim to inspire the next generation of ocean advocates while supporting a broader vision that connects conservation, research, eco-tourism, and community involvement.
