We seek out continuing education seminars routinely to expand and perfect our clinical skills. Our office is lucky to have a talented staff of state-certified professionals, including a variety of clinical backgrounds. Our office employs speech pathologists, speech pathology assistants, occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants with experience in a variety of different settings including hospitals and schools. Shari received her bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders from Biola University in 1990 and her Master's degree in Speech Communication from Cal State Fullerton in 1993. She started her career in the public schools but after a summer internship in the hospital setting, she switched career paths and became a specialist in acute rehab and long term acute care for patients of all ages. She became the Rehab Manager of 3 facilities before leaving it all behind to become a mom and part-time school based speech pathologist. With her youngest in kindergarten, Shari decided to focus on more individualized therapy by starting a private practice. Happy Kids Therapy has a soul-filling passion for children with Down Syndrome. Heather Vukelich, MS SLP-CCC (speech pathologist and feeding specialist) has been part of the Down syndrome community since childhood when she volunteered in the special day classroom at her elementary school. Her passion continued through her life volunteering for the Down Syndrome Connection of the Bay Area and Challenger Baseball league. She has been a practicing, ASHA certified speech - language pathologist since 2003. She has worked inside the doors of the Down Syndrome Connection of the Bay Area since 2008. Today, Heather's passion for inclusion and independence translates directly into her work with children on speech clarity and feeding development. Heather is a certified Talk Tools therapist (Level 4 - Specific to Down syndrome). ? Heather was trained by the creator of the Talk Tools program - Sara Rosenfeld Johnson. (www.talktools.com). Heather sees children of all ages (birth - adults) with a variety of diagnoses. Heather's specialty in working with children with Down syndrome also includes in-depth knowledge and resources regarding: dietary considerations, communication programs, educational programs, medical considerations, physical and sensory needs, as well as behavioral strategies.
