American Board of Imaging Informatics sets the professional certification standards for excellence in healthcare informatics, a growing field of high-tech healthcare pioneers. Almost simultaneously with the advent of electronic health records came the use of digital technology to capture medical images. Imaging informatics concerns how medical images are used and exchanged throughout complex healthcare systems. This subspecialty has gained wide acceptance and is often seen as a mission-critical function in healthcare. Virtually every healthcare clinical discipline depends on imaging informatics. With the Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) designation, ABII: •Establishes eligibility requirements for professionals who may apply for certification, based on their experience and education. •Creates and maintains a certification exam according to strict psychometric principles that include practice analysis, item writing and secure delivery to eligible applicants. •Establishes and manages continuing education requirements to ensure individuals are engaged in their profession and kept abreast of advancements in quality, technology and best practice. •Sets and manages recertification requirements.
