Helping Asian American youth rise above the obstacles before them to achieve their potential by promoting education, instilling self-confidence, and developing leadership skills. Each year, close to 500 high school students, selected from multiple school districts, both public and private, from Oregon and SW Washington attend the Asian American Youth Leadership Conference. Students from diverse ethnic backgrounds, including Cambodian, Chinese, Filipino, Hmong, Indian, Iranian, Japanese, Korean, Laotian, Mien, Pacific Islander, Pakistani, Thai, Tibetan, and Vietnamese, among others were in attendance. In observance of the directive from our State, City, and County officials as well as the public health guidance in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 AAYLC which happened on Friday, April 23rd with the theme of Together in Solidarity was virtual while we postponed the in-person conference to 2022. The following programs was still active in 2021: Student Ambassador , Scholarship , and the Logo Design Competition . The Student Ambassador Programs goal is to provide one student from each Portland and surrounding metropolitan high school the opportunity to serve by promoting the Annual Asian American Youth Leadership Conference among their student peers. It is important to note that the student ambassador will work with the support of an adult school staff, who is usually the same person chaperoning at the conference. Applications were due on February 28, 2021. Students are invited to participate in this competition. Submitted designs will be displayed at the conference and published on the AAYLC.org website. Applications were due on March 20, 2021. The Asian American Youth Leadership Scholarship is for this years senior students who have previously attended the Asian American Youth Leadership Conference or will attend the 2021 Leadership Conference. The scholarship is a one-time award of $1,500 for first place, $1,000 for second place, and $500 for third place. Applications were due on March 20, 2021.
