A Step Beyond Information

A Step Beyond (ASB) is a Creative Youth Development nonprofit serving youth and families living at or below the poverty line in North County San Diego. At the heart of our program is dance. Through high-quality dance education, students develop confidence, discipline, creativity, resilience, and a sense of belonging. Dance serves as the foundation upon which we build a comprehensive support system that empowers youth to thrive both on and off the stage. Through a unique 10-year commitment model, ASB supports students from 3rd grade through high school graduation and beyond. In addition to dance education, students receive academic support, college and career readiness programming, mentorship, and access to family services that strengthen the entire household. Our holistic approach includes: • Dance Education – Weekly classes, performance opportunities, and artistic experiences that foster personal growth and self-expression. • Academic Support – Tutoring, literacy intervention, college and career readiness programming, college tours, mentorship, and more. • Family Services – Counseling, expressive arts therapy, parent workshops, resource navigation, wellness programming, and more. Since our founding in 2014, ASB has served hundreds of youth and their families. Today, 100% of students who complete our program graduate from high school and are accepted into college or a career pathway. By combining the transformative power of dance with academic and family support, ASB creates opportunities for young people to discover their potential, achieve their goals, and build bright futures.
