Springer Opera House Arts Association Information

The Springer Opera House is a professional regional theatre, the State Theatre of Georgia and a registered National Historic Landmark—one of only two still operating as an actively producing theatre. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are dedicated to artistic excellence, educational advancement, regional economic growth, and the stewardship of our historic facility. Since 1871, the Springer has evolved into a 135,000-square-foot complex featuring a 600-seat historic auditorium, 250-seat studio theatre, 300-seat outdoor stage, nine classrooms, and on-site actor housing. The Springer stages 10-15 productions annually across four distinct series: Mainstage (Broadway-scale musicals and plays), Studio (contemporary and experimental works), Children’s Theatre (student-led productions), and Theatre for the Very Young (interactive works for ages 0-5). As a founding member of the League of Historic American Theatres, we host 113,900 annual admissions, maintaining Georgia's second-largest audience for live theatre. Beyond professional productions, we operate the Springer Theatre Academy, a year-round educational program utilizing a "Life Skills Through Stage Skills" curriculum. By integrating world-class performing arts, inclusive educational outreach, and historic preservation, the Springer ensures this irreplaceable piece of Georgia history remains a vibrant, functional, and accessible resource for the entire community.
