Organic Research Corp. (ORC), is a bio-informatics technology startup that creates simple, elegant software solutions to bridge the gap between advanced science theory and real world practice. Our primary project is in creating a diagnostic tool for a common liver disease, Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) — a condition estimated to affect 90 million Americans. Our Digital Liver Pathology Aid (DLPA) is an advanced digital diagnostic tool for identifying NAFLD. DLPA will be the first product to market with the ability to automatically detect all 4 types of lesions necessary to diagnose NAFLD. Existing products can only identify 2 types of lesions associated with NAFLD, and do so with low accuracy and limited utility. Organic Research Corp., has a license agreement on medical technology developed at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (UWM), in partnership with Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). The technology uses advanced algorithms, machine learning and image processing techniques to aid pathologists diagnosing and staging NAFLD. ORC is funded in part by a grant award from the UW-Extension Ideadvance Seed Fund through its partnership with the WI Economic Development Corporation and the University of Wisconsin System. In addition, our company was selected from a field of more than 300 entrants to be a member of the “Diligent Dozen” in the 2014 Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest.
