Jesse Gray pupils do extremely well at chess ! Boys and girls from the school regularly play in team and individual competitions. Many go on to play chess for Nottinghamshire at county level. This success is down to both the help given by parents and also to Mr Levens, Mr Williams and Mr Crawley who teach chess at school on Tuesday and Thursday lunch times. These three fellows also run the junior county chess team, one of the strongest in the UK. Their experience and track record is second to none. But despite the high standards reached by many Jesse Gray pupils, the main purpose of the chess club is to have fun playing chess. The chess club is open to all boys and girls from year 2 onwards.
