Insource Renewables and Backyard Buildings have collaborated to develop four standard designs for our prebuilt Maine Solar Structures line. Each model is hand-built by the Amish craftsmen at Backyard Buildings of Unity and features a high quality solar electric system by Maines only nationally accredited solar installation company. Our original 12-foot wide saltbox, the Classic provides an aesthetic ground-mounted solution for grid-tied and off-grid applications. This model is best suited for applications with moderate electrical use and customers seeking the aesthetic of a classic saltbox design. The Downeaster provides the most cost-effective option of our four models. With a shed roof on a 12-foot wide footprint, the Downeaster provides an aesthetic ground-mounted solution and is best suited for applications with moderate electrical use. With our maximum width and highest knee-wall, the Solstice provides the greatest versatility of our designs. The use of large format solar modules also creates a highly cost-effective use of solar for applications of moderate to high household electricity usage. Common uses for this model include storage, workspace, and living quarters. The Homesteader is the largest of our prebuilt Solar Structures and is a great solution for electric homes that utilize heat pumps or other heavy uses, such as electric vehicle charging. With enough room for 30 standard-sized solar modules, the Homesteader has upwards of 11kW of capacity with high output modules. Each Maine Solar Structure features a solar photovoltaic (PV) system built with long-lasting, high-performing equipment that is installed by a company recognized for its attention to detail.
