Green Computing Foundation Information

The Green Computing Foundation exists to make the environmental cost of computing measurable, and then to make it smaller. AI is now a material consumer of energy, carbon and water, and almost none of the public conversation about it is grounded in measurement. We work on the other side of that: the tools, the standards and the people who can put a number on what a system actually costs, and prove that what it saves is larger. We run the GreenMind Sustainable AI Hackathon — a global five-stage competition where measured environmental impact carries 30% of the score at every stage, judged on a rubric published in full before teams build. Eight domain tracks, three entry categories, and a Grand Finale in Bengaluru. The 2026 edition opens for registration on 15 August and closes 31 October, with the finale on 14–15 November. We also run GCF Academy, which certifies practitioners in sustainable AI, and the Sustainable AI Center of Excellence, which develops the measurement methodology the competition runs on. Everything we ask teams to do, we make possible for free. The measurement toolkit is entirely open source. The rubric is public. The feedback is written and goes to every team, whether they advance or not. Build AI that earns its carbon.
