California Reentry Institute Information

For 16 years, the California Reentry Institute (CRI) has been dedicated to empowering incarcerated people to successfully reintegrate into society. By focusing on cognitive behavioral therapy and restorative justice practices, CRI fosters the transformative growth essential for healing and successful reentry. As a comprehensive Pre and Post Release Program, CRI serves people incarcerated at San Quentin State Prison within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. CRI's impactful approach is evident in its outstanding track record. Of the 129 participants released through the program, none have recidivated, resulting in a remarkable 100% success rate of leading productive lives. This stands in stark contrast to the general reincarceration rate of 66% for those who do not receive CRI services. Such success not only changes lives but also generates significant economic benefits. To date, CRI has saved the State of California and its taxpayers an impressive $17,134,940 annually. The California Reentry Institute's commitment to restorative justice and cognitive behavioral therapy not only reduces recidivism but also promotes long-term community safety and well-being. By addressing the root causes of criminal behavior, bringing our participants to understand the impact that their crimes had on their victims and society at large, and providing continuous support.
