Baseworks Information

How precisely you perceive your own body shapes how you move, how you learn, and how you sustain attention. Baseworks is built around that idea: a movement education methodology at the center, a body of published writing that explores it, and ongoing contributions to scientific research on how movement, perception, and learning interact. The methodology originated in Japan, was developed over more than two decades, and has been presented around the world. It's systematic and informed by neuroscience. Practice develops distinct body awareness capacities, and practitioners often notice those capacities becoming useful in other areas of their lives, in how they learn, concentrate, and sustain effort. Programs form a connected ecosystem built around hybrid learning. Online educational material and guided practice combine with events and cohort-based programs, held in person and virtually, and practitioners move between formats as their study deepens. Alongside the programs, Baseworks publishes articles and newsletters on perception, attention, and physical practice. The writing is for people who take how they learn seriously: movement professionals, educators, researchers, and professionals with depth in their own disciplines who want a more precise relationship with their own bodies. The research draws on about ten years of practice data from more than 10,000 learners. The team presents this work at scientific conferences and continues to develop it in dialogue with the research community.
