Acumense Information

Acumense is an independent research organisation that generates knowledge about complex societal issues, situated in transnational or global contexts. Our approach is firmly rooted in practice and societal need: we build knowledge with roots. Our research forms the foundation of what we do, but our varied professional experiences — with how organisations operate, with the reality of diverse institutional aims and external pressures, and with the complexity involved in designing and delivering small to large-scaled projects — have a significant influence on how we conduct research. These experiences enable us to support and advise clients in the public, private and civil society sectors. Our own roots extend across diverse communities, cultures, industries and professions. This broad exposure brings with it a richness in perspectives, but especially a deeper awareness of the fundamental gaps that persist with regarding access to eduction, information and knowledge. We therefore consider ourselves to be part of the “global partnership for information”, as Kofi Annan described it, which means that we share in the responsibility for addressing these gaps. Our centres of excellence as well as our information and knowledge sharing activities are specifically geared towards realising these aims.
