Sonic Youth, initially comprising of guitarist / vocalists Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo , guitarist / bassist / vocalist Kim Gordon and drummer Richard Edson, were formed in New York City in 1981. A product of the No-Wave music scene of the late 1970s, the group had their roots in abrasive, experimental music, with Moore and Ranaldo having previously worked with the experimental composer Glenn Branca. The band were joined in 1985 by drummer Steve Shelley , and have now recorded 14 albums together, as well as many side and solo projects. Their work has been consistently challenging and innovative, and they are widely regarded as one of the most intriguing and influential bands of their time.

New Orders first new music in 5 years was ecstatically received last month when they shared a brand new single, Be a Rebel. Today, the [Renegade Spezial Edit] of the track debuts, the result of the bands collaboration on a capsule range for adidas Spezial. Founder and curator of adidas Spezial, Gary Aspden, (long-time friend and fan of New Order) and his team worked very closely with the band on the project. This mix is an extended edit of the Adidas _nwrdrSPZL promotional video soundtrack, whose accompanying film features dancer Rentaro Nakaaki of the English National Ballet. Both the original version and the new edit of the track are available now digitally, the 12 and digital bundle featuring new remixes will be released on 13 November 2020. Remixes featured on the single include Bernard's Renegade Mix (the original version of the adidas Spezial ad soundtrack) and Stephen Morris T34 Mix, as well as Bernards Renegade Instrumental Mix. Further dance floor engineered remixes will follow. Be a Rebel was originally planned as a release ahead of New Orders tour this autumn, but with live shows on hold and their dates re-scheduled to 2021, the band felt it important to share new music with fans.
