The South African Police Service (SAPS) is the national police force of the Republic of South Africa. The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 (Act 108 of 1996) lays down that the South African Police Service has a responsibility to - - prevent, combat and investigate crime; - maintain public order; - protect and secure the inhabitants of the Republic and their property; and - uphold and enforce the law. - create a safe and secure environment for all people in South Africa. - prevent anything that may threaten the safety or security of any community - investigate any crimes that threaten the safety or security of any community - ensure criminals are brought to justice; and - participation in efforts to address the causes of crime.

The South African Reserve Bank (the SARB) is the central bank of the Republic of South Africa. It regards its primary goal in the South African economic system as "the achievement and maintenance of price stability". The South African Reserve Bank maintains that South Africa has a growing economy based on the principles of a market system, private and social initiative, effective competition and social fairness. It recognises, in the performance of its duties, the need to pursue balanced economic development and growth.
